There isn’t just a single kind of brain injury that exists. An Intracranial Hematoma is just one of the many. This type of injury occurs when a blood vessel ruptures, causing blood to start pooling in the area between a person’s brain and skull. Such an occurrence doesn’t generally occur for just any reason: It usually happens due to traumatic injuries.

It’s not uncommon for workers to suffer intracranial hematomas during an on-the-job accident. Knowing how they occur can help you avoid them.

What Types of Injuries Can Result in Intracranial Hematomas?

Any incident that involves any movement or impact to your head may result in an intracranial hematoma. Here are just a few examples:

  • Slip-and-fall accident
  • Struck-by accident
  • Automobile accident

What Are Common Symptoms of Intracranial Hematomas?

Individuals who are suffering from an intracranial hematoma may experience (www.brainline.org):

  • Mood or behavioral fluctuations
  • Nausea
  • Impaired speech
  • A loss of consciousness
  • Headaches

There are many different types of intracranial hematomas, each with its own symptomology. Pre-existing conditions may also exacerbate a patient’s symptoms.

What To Do If You Have Suffered From a Head Injury

It may take some time for you to show physical signs of distress (middlesexhealth.org). By then, it may be too late to treat your condition or reverse any damage done. This is why you should always see a doctor to get checked out immediately following any workplace accident. California law requires virtually every employer to retain workers’ compensation coverage that allows you to see a doctor at no expense to you. This gives you very little reason not to get checked out — and prompt medical attention can help you tie your condition to the workplace incident that caused it.

Are You or a Loved One Suffering From Work-Related Brain Injury?

Navigating through your complex workers’ compensation claim can be tricky! Especially, when deadlines are critical to your physical and financial wellbeing. However, you don’t have to do it alone. An experienced advocate can help you learn more and guide you in the right direction.
